Person-Centred therapy was developed by Carl Rogers in the 1940s and it offers a unique approach as it emphasises the client’s capacity for self-discovery and growth, placing the client at the centre of the therapeutic journey.

A Person-Centred therapist believes in three core conditions:

1. Unconditional Positive Regard

The therapist offers complete acceptance and support for the client, without judgment. This creates a safe space for clients to explore their thoughts and feelings openly and honestly.

2. Empathy

The therapist strives to understand the client’s world from their perspective. This involves actively listening, reflecting back emotions, and validating the client’s experience.

3. Congruence

The therapist is authentic and transparent in their interactions with the client. This promotes trust and allows the client to feel comfortable expressing themselves fully.
